LS Catch can system

Okay so since there seems to be pretty shaddy information all over the internet about Catch cans systems and people trying to make a small fortune on a set up when they don't even actually know themselves how the system works is pretty scary. So I decide I would make this information page about catch cans and what you actually need to make them work and keep oil out of your motor.

This isn't a MM catch can or Mighty Mouse catch can system. This is a home built system that anyone can build and customize to their needs which actually works better than other systems.

Okay so what do you need. Well depending on Horse power and such you will want to follow these guidelines. It's really pretty simple actually.

Up to 600 HP -6an fittings
Up to 800 HP -8an fittings
Up to 1,000 HP -10an fittings
Up to 1,200 HP -12an fittings
Up to 1,600 HP -16an fittings

In this example I will build a -10an Catch can system since this will probably be the most used one of all of them. Just so you know other than the fitting and hose sizes the parts will be the same. Okay so here is the parts list for my Home made Catch can system.

  1. 1: 10ft -10An braided hose. Ebay $40
  2. 1:-10An oil fill cap adapter. Facebook $35
  3. 2: -10An 90 fittings. $26 Amazon
  4. 2: -10An Straight fittings. $22 Amazon
  5. 1: -10An Vented catch can with filter. $40 Ebay
  6.  2: 3/8's Vacuum caps to block off the intake and snout nipples. $? I already had some
= $163 total cost. I'm sure with some searching you can find these parts cheaper but this is just a quick idea of what you are looking at for a -10 An catch can system that will work as it should.

Okay so how do all these parts work together?
Basically what you want to do is to vent both valve covers to the catch can, Simple as that. Why don't you just out breathers on to the top of each valve cover? You certainly can but some have found that they can smell oil in the car so if you don't care about the smell of hot motor oil inside your car simply put two appropriate sized breathers on the valve covers.
For those who do not want the smell of oil here are some photos and drawings of how you should set this catch can system up.

First you want to out the oil fill adapter in place of the oil fill cap.
