Coil pack mounting.

Image
Got my Coil packs today. I used a coil mount from a non Supercharged 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3800 this works perfectly to mount the coils close to the left trunk side of the Fiero and will allow me to use stock 3800 length spark plug wires which I have chosen to use the zzp 10.5 wires. I did have to buy some longer 10/32 x 1 1/2 mounting screws to attach the coils to the brackets as my stock Ines were not long enough.

Found my Donor engine and transmission

I searched high and low to find a low Mile 3800 Supercharged engine and transmission for my swap. I finally found one in Houston Texas. Cost me a bit more than I would have liked but it was one of the only ones I could find with low miles at just over 50k miles. It was in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP.  At the time I did not get very good information as to what all was needed for the swap other than engine trans wiring harness computer and axles. Now I know better that I didn't need the wiring and computer from that car since it is a drive by wire in 04 and my Fiero is drive by cable so in order to make it work in my Fiero I need a 1997-2003 wiring harness and pcm. Would have been nice to know this before I bought the wrong stuff. Hopefully I can sell the 04 wiring harness and pcm and get some of my money back.

Pulling the engine cradle from the 86 Fiero parts car.

My parts car that I bought for $200 was so ideal for what I was looking to use it for. Someone already started taking it apart and left the parts in the car. So I didn't have to do much to it to get the parts out of it that I needed for my swap. I did however let a few parts that I was not aware that I needed go to waste when I had someone come get the car. The AC lines were just laying in the trunk and I had no idea at that point that I would need the end that attached to the car. Not that big of deal I did find others at the junkyard and out of my newest part car.

How it all started. I found a $200 86 Fiero that had a 4 cylinder with a standard transmission. Which I did not know at the time was perfect for alot of parts that I needed for my swap. As you use the standard shift axles for the 3800 swap since they are bigger around than the automatic ones. So this car paid for itself with just being able to have the axles from it. But I also used the wiring harness, engine cradle, Struts, rear spindles and alot of other parts so I could make everything on the engine cradle like brand new before installing it into my 87 Fiero T Top car.
